Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

FEATURES OF THE CLASS

This is a professional nursing position involving responsibility for giving care to students and staff and for performing related nursing services such as pupil health screening and notification of defects and communicable disease control requiring judgment and skills. The work is performed under the general direction of our School Physician, Registered Nurses, School Nurse-Teacher, District Head Nurse and/or Director of Health Services.  

EXAMPLES OF WORK INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Assists the School Physician in physical, visual and auditory screening examinations of students and employees
  • Administers first aid and emergency treatment to students, employees and visitors
  • Administers medications to students as prescribed
  • Prepares and maintains health records for school authorities, state and federal regulatory agencies
  • Prepares/assists with regulatory reporting needs of the district
  • Assists at school immunization clinics, sports/new student physicals and paperwork.
  • Arranges to transport sick or injured students or employees to hospital, home, doctor’s or dentist’s office in cases of emergency
  • Inspects the school plant, playground, and cafeteria and reports on general safety and sanitary conditions
  • Orders, inventories, and oversees the storage of first aid and related health supplies and equipment
  • Provides/assists with staff, parent and student trainings/professional development (growth and development, hygiene, diabetic, food/insect/latex allergies, lead screenings, etc.)
  • Participates in special events (UPK and K round-ups, Health Fairs, etc.)
  • Provides staffing support and lunch relief as needed
  • Participates in Field trips as deemed medically necessary by Director of Health Services/School Nurse-Teacher/District Head Nurse, District Nurse or RN
  • Assists with coordination of activities from outside community agencies (dental van, family flu shot clinic, etc.)
  • Assists with medical clearance for sports participation
  • Prepares working papers for students
  • Works on education of students, staff and parents on a wide-range of topics including, but not limited to: diabetes management, asthma, seizures, food/latex/bee allergies/intolerances, bed bugs, lice
  • Performs lice head checks
  • Communicates with medical providers, families and staff regarding the needs of students
  • Works under the direct supervision of the RN

 

$20 per hour (2025-2026)
